On Thursday April 16, 2015, more than 210 graduate students from the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego will showcase their ideas and engineering solutions to research challenges during the poster session at Research Expo 2015.
The Jacobs School of Engineering is a great place to find the entrepreneurs that go on to start companies like the ones EvoNexus incubates. In fact, Tortuga Logic, Electrozyme and Tomnod are all EvoNexus startups that were founded by graduates of the Jacobs School of Engineering.
Tortuga Logic is a proprietary software to analyze the security properties in hardware designs and prevent cyber security breaches. The company’s co-founder Jason Oberg presented at Research Expo as a graduate student, and his former advisor Ryan Kastner, professor of computer science and engineering, has many interesting posters at this year’s event, including:
58. HARDWARE ACCELERATED NOVEL OPTICAL DE NOVO ASSEMBLY FOR LARGE-SCALE GENOMES
Student(s): Pingfan Meng
Professor(s): Ryan Kastner
Industry Application Area(s): Life Sciences/Medical Devices & Instruments
59. EMBEDDED 3D RECONSTRUCTION IN REAL TIME
Student(s): Quentin Kevin Gautier | Alexandria Shearer | Zac Blair
Professor(s): Ryan Kastner
Industry Application Area(s): Electronics/Photonics | Energy/Clean technology | Software, Analytics
60. 3D SOUNDSCAPING AND HYDROPHONE LOCALIZATION USING AMBIENT OCEAN NOISE FIELDS

In addition to the 210+ research posters, Research Expo features fast-paced faculty talks and a networking reception with faculty, students, industry partners and alumni.
Did you know that there are four new research centers at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering? Faculty talks will focus on innovative research areas that fall under each of the new centers, such as wearable sensors, extreme events research, sustainable power and energy, and visual computing. Electozyme co-founder Joshua Windmiller presented at Research Expo 2011 and did his PhD under the supervision of Joseph Wang, who is the Director of the Center for Wearable Sensors.
Is your start-up looking for high-potential, entrepreneurial engineers to join your team? You won’t want to miss this opportunity to connect and network with these innovators!
