Building Successful Start Ups: Lessons from the Trenches from CommNexus on Vimeo.
Along with a growing technology industry here in San Diego has come a plethora of new mobile app developers.  Amongst this ever expanding community are many talented start up companies developing useful and innovative new apps that solve problems we didn’t even realize we had.

From real-time classifieds or finding all the beer on tap in San Diego, to planning impromptu gatherings with friends, it seems that these new mobile technologies are adding an element of convenience to our lives and making it easier and easier to find what we’re looking for.

So how did these companies come up with these solutions?  What was the process like in developing these technologies?  What hurdles did they have to jump to get to where they are at?  How are they competing with all of the other apps out there?  More importantly, what’s the next step to make these apps the next Facebook or Twitter?

Join us on April 17th to hear from three new companies: Antengo, Tap Hunter and Saambaa who are all rooted here in San Diego and in the brand new EvoNexus incubator downtown.  These companies will show off their apps and discuss their experiences both with challenges they did not expect and challenges they have faced and overcome.  We will also hear about where they are at now and where they are going from here.

Co-founder & Head Ant-ern, Antengo

Antengo is the venture-backed pioneer reinventing classified listings for mobile from the ground up. Antengo’s “real-time” marketplace allows buyers and sellers to find each other immediately with GPS location and instant communication, without sharing their phone number or email. You can see a 90 second demo of our Android / iPhone apps here.

Matt Voigt
CEO, saambaa

saambaa is a mobile application that enables people to quickly share plans and discover what friends are doing so they can join in.  Whereas Facebook is about “what you’ve done,” saambaa is about “what you could be doing.”  Apple recently featured saambaa on the front page of the iTunes app store and the application spent two months in “Great Free Apps” and “Party Planner.”Melani Gordon
CEO, Tap Hunter

Tap Hunter is a leading force within the craft beer movement that connects craft beer fanatics with the beers they love, the brewers who brew them and the locations that pour them. By keeping track of what’s on tap and where, Tap Hunter’s web and mobile app platforms have the ability to direct millions of craft beer fans to the best beer-centric venues – from pubs and breweries, to special events and festivals – in 10 major cities across the US. Tap Hunter is regularly featured in the media as a craft beer resource, including The Huffington Post, Travel + Leisure, and was also recently selected by EvoNexus, a high-profile business incubator in San Diego that works to accelerate the success of technology startups. Founders Melani and Jeff Gordon were recognized by San Diego Magazine’s “Top 50 to Watch” in 2012. For more information about Tap Hunter, please visit
