High Tech Night at the Opera

About the Event
High-Tech Night @ the Opera combines San Diego Opera’s world-class entertainment with the opportunity to connect with hundreds of preeminent executives, investors and research scientists from Southern California’s tech and clean tech industries. This year, we are delighted and proud to honor two extraordinary couples: Gillian and Tony Thornley and Sheryl and Harvey White, for their many esteemed contributions to San Diego’s technology industry, and their long-time and generous commitment to San Diego Opera.
Pre-Opera Networking Reception – 5:00pm
Join the leadership committee at San Diego’s luxurious hotel, THE US GRANT, for an elegant, private, pre-opera networking reception featuring: carving stations, a variety of salads, grilled gourmet flatbreads, wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks. During the reception, you will enjoy brief welcoming remarks from the Chairs, including a few words on the importance of STE[a]M Education by Harvey White – a passionate advocate for science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.
A Masked Ball by Giuseppe Verdi – 7:00pm
Based on the life, and assassination of Sweden’s King Gustav III, A Masked Ball by Verdi, is a suspenseful and grand opera, featuring a melodious score. One of the world’s most sought after tenors, Piotr Beczala, sings the role of ‘Gustav III, King of Sweden’ and making her debut on San Diego Opera’s as ‘Madam Arvidson’ is mezzo-soprano, Stephanie Blythe, whom you will recognize from her frequent broadcasts on KPBS. Fun Fact: King Gustav III was a very generous supporter of education and the arts. During his reign he established both the Swedish Academy and Kungliga Operan (The Royal Swedish Opera), Sweden’s national stage for opera and ballet.
Dessert and Coffee at Afterglow – 10:00pm
High-Tech Night @ the Opera guests are invited to gather together again after the performance for a dessert reception at San Diego Opera’s new event – Afterglow. Conveniently held on site at the Civic Theatre in the Beverly Sills Salon, Afterglow is open to all patrons and is designed to allow guests to mix and mingle with the opera stars, chorus, symphony, and crew members. -Tech Night @ the Opera participants will have a designated meeting area, with complimentary desserts and coffee, also, a no-host bar.
