If You Build It, They Will Come: Driving the Shift from Program to Audience Centricity



Who is your audience? What are they watching? How are they consuming content? The current TV ad model is evolving rapidly as historical reach and frequency, network and day part, program ad placement and panel based measurement is giving ground to competing online, on demand video and the increasing availability of set top box (STB) data. Advertisers are responding, wanting TV to be more targetable, interactive and measurable. Media companies are trying to protect and enhance TV ad inventory value while grappling with how to shift to the online model and make it even better. The time has come for media companies to build viewership relationships in order to protect and enhance ad inventory, broaden their audience and diversify revenue.

During this session learn more about what it takes to build the audience assets necessary to leverage traditional CRM, online and advanced advertising technologies and prepare for the future of advanced advertising.

Renee Brown
Media Manager, Red Door Interactive
Renee Brown is the Media Manager at Red Door Interactive and responsible for leading a team of experts in planning and purchasing of targeted audiences across various ad tactics, such as: display, print, television, radio, paid search, social media, and more.  She’s been with Red Door for five years and have previous agency experience equating to more than 10 years of media expertise.  She prides herself in achieving her clients’ goals and maintaining successful campaigns.  Renee has worked with clients such as: Qualcomm, Shea Homes, San Diego County Credit Union, Souplantation, Vistage International, and others.

James Malins
VP of Cross Channel Solutions, Amobee
James Malins is Vice President of Cross Channel Solutions for Amobee, the company defining digital marketing. Amobee brings marketers, agencies, publishers and operators an innovative digital marketing technology platform and solutions. James develops and oversees Amobee’s cross channel advertising delivery strategy and methodology across its unified digital marketing technology platform. James is a digital advertising thought leader and sought-after speaker, panelist and moderator. His opinions and insights have been featured in AdExchanger, ClickZ, The Makegood, iMedia Connection and at major industry summits such as Brand Innovators and Social Media Week LA among others.

Before Adconion, James was with MVNP, a DDB affiliate agency, supporting digital strategy and managing multi-million dollar media campaigns. James is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii and holds a B.A. in Marketing from Loyola Marymount University.

Nick Colsey
VP, Business Development, Sony Electronics, Inc.
Nick Colsey is vice president of Business Development at Sony Electronics. In this role, he works with multiple Sony product categories and divisions to bring the connected user experience to consumers worldwide. A Sony veteran for over 20 years, Colsey is an integral member of the team responsible for Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video, the world’s first smart TV platform, which includes Netflix, YouTube, Amazon and hundreds of other apps and is available worldwide.  

More recently, Colsey was part of the team which introduced the world’s first consumer 4K media player and Video Unlimited 4k, the world’s first 4K video store with feature films and TV shows. Previously, Colsey was involved in Sony Electronics’ initiatives in the U.S. with digital cable TV and digital video recorders. Prior to that, he worked in product planning in Sony HQ in Tokyo. Colsey holds an Industrial Design degree from Central-St. Martins in London.

Steve Christian
VP of Marketing, Verimatrix, Inc.
Steve Christian has a wealth of experience in the digital media and Internet technology space and is a speaker on media technology and business trends at industry events around the globe.  At Verimatrix, he is responsible for product strategy, marketing programs and management of brand equity.  Prior to joining Verimatrix, Mr. Christian was VP Marketing at streaming media specialist Nine Systems and has also run his own “virtual VP” technology marketing consultancy, helping the growth of a variety of software, wireless and internet security ventures.  His background includes product and services management at Wind River, ST Microelectronics and Raytheon. Mr. Christian has a 1st class degree in Physics from the University of Bristol and an MBA from the Open University in the UK.


Dan Sweeney
Western Division Vice President, The Allant Group
Dan Sweeney is Western Division Vice President, the Allant Group, an advertising and marketing data analytics integration company focused in media and other verticals.  Dan is responsible for business development reaching into the Cable MSO, studio, network, OTT, consumer electronics, and broadcast industries.  Allant customers include Comcast, NBCU, Charter, Cox and Suddenlink among others.Previously Dan was Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Solekai Systems, working for customers including Ultraviolet, Time Warner, DirecTV and TiVo.  Dan was also sales and marketing chief at meta data and entitlement software company Cauldron Solutions (now Grab Media), and ITV multiplayer gaming company Buzztime.   A telecommunications veteran, Dan also held senior level positions at Gemstar-TV Guide International (now Rovi), Cooke Cablevision and Showtime Networks, Inc.  Dan is currently the Co-Chair, Digital Media Group for CommNexus in San Diego. During his career in the digital video industry he has held several committee and chair positions within CTAM, NATPE and the ITA.
