Len J. Lauer is chief operating officer of Sprint Nextel. In this role, Lauer directs all of Sprint Nextel’s operations to deliver converged media and communication solutions which are simple, instant and enriching.
He previously served as president and COO of Sprint Corporation, a position he assumed in September 2003. Prior to that, Mr. Lauer served as president of Sprint PCS, leading the sales, marketing and customer care operations for the nation’s first and largest, all-digital, all-PCS nationwide, personal communications services (PCS) network.
Mr. Lauer joined Sprint in 1998 from Bell Atlantic-New Jersey. He served as president of Sprint’s consumer services group in the global markets group in 1999 and, in May 2000, Mr. Lauer became president of Sprint Business. Six months later, Mr. Lauer served as president of the global markets group. In that position, he directed the operation’s domestic and international marketing, product development, sales, network operations, technology planning and information technology functions.
Before coming to Sprint, Mr. Lauer spent more than five years with Bell Atlantic Corporation. During his last three years with the company, he served as president and CEO of Bell Atlantic-New Jersey. Prior to 1992, Lauer spent 13 years with IBM, holding a variety of management positions in marketing and sales.
Mr. Lauer holds a Bachelor of Science in managerial economics from the University of California-San Diego. He is a board member of H&R Block Inc., VeriSign Inc., the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trustees of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo. Additionally, Mr. Lauer serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for CTIA – The Wireless Association ®.

George Chamberlin was recently appointed Executive Editor for The Daily Transcript, San Diego’s only daily business newspaper. He is also the business editor for KOGO Radio and host of “Money in the Morning”, a personal finance and consumer program each Sunday morning. He is the Money Advisor for NBC 7/39, providing financial reports each weekday morning, and a columnist for the North County Times. He is the publisher and editor of a national newsletter, Investing for Rookies. In addition, George has twice been honored as Media Advocate of the Year by the Small Business Administration. |
