Join the M2M SIG the evening before CTIA kicks off to hear what leading wireless carriers think about M2M services.  In this panel discussion, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and Vodfone will discuss a broad range of topics such as where they see value in Connected Devices and M2M, and the challenges and opportunities from a service and solution perspective. We’ll examine operator strategies, future technologies and tactics, as well as how to get involved in the ecosystem.

PANELISTS:

Ross Caplan
Associate Director, Business Solutions Group (BSG), Verizon Wireless
Ross Caplan is a key member of Verizon Wirelesses’ M2M business, responsible for developing and managing M2M strategy regarding modules and M2M devices specifically regarding enterprise and vertical applications.  He is a highly regarded M2M expert with vast experience in the Machine-to-Machine/Connected Device industry working for 3 major US carriers architecting M2M business strategy, new partnerships, product and module portfolios, developing enterprise solutions, as well as driving new channel initiatives.  Prior to joining Verizon, Ross was involved in developing the M2M businesses at Nextel and Sprint.  He received his master’s degree from the University of Miami, FL and bachelor’s from the University of Maryland, College Park.Eric Krauss

AT&T Global Business Services
As Director of M2M Product Management for AT&T’s Advanced Mobility group, Eric Krauss is responsible for driving product innovation for AT&T’s business customers deploying connected device solutions. For the past 7 years, Eric’s team has managed AT&T’s enterprise connected device business, including the P&L, go-to-market strategy, platform  investments and product roadmap. Through his 15 year telecommunications carrier spanning AT&T, Cingular, AT&T Wireless, McCaw Cellular, and Bay Area Cellular, Eric has had positions of increasing responsibility, including leading AT&T Wireless’ successful BlackBerry wireless email launch and go-to-market initiative, and management of voice products responsible for almost half of wireless revenue.

Wayne L. Ward
Vice President, Emerging Solutions, Sprint Nextel
Wayne Ward is Vice President of Emerging Solutions for Sprint Nextel.  Ward was named to lead the company’s Emerging Solutions Group in October 2009, with responsibility for developing M2M (machine-to-machine) and mobile computing solutions. The Emerging Solutions unit utilizes the network, systems and open-device expertise of Sprint Nextel and its strategic partners to deliver innovative integrated product applications to the business and consumer markets. As part of the Sprint Business Integrated Solutions Group, Ward’s organization plays a lead role in the creation of a broad range of solutions for B-B-C, B2B and B2C customers and partners, including in-vehicle infotainment, aftermarket and commercial telematics, asset tracking, fleet management, remote monitoring/automation and control, smart grid, vending/kiosk, digital signage and telehealth.

Erik Kling
Director M2M Sales, America’s Vodafone Global Enterprise
Erik Joined Vodafone in September 2010 taking responsibility for sales and business development in the newly formed M2M line of business for the America’s Eastern Region and LatAm. The M2M line of business will build and deliver end to end M2M solutions into fortune 1000 multinational organizations on internal connectivity solutions combined with hardware and software capabilities from partners and M&A activities around the world. These solutions will be delivered across the Vodafone footprint of over 70 networks along with the over 400 network partnerships in place today worldwide. Prior to joining Vodafone Erik ran global business development for two start ups in the M2M space delivering hardware and software solutions to enterprise, Telco and Retailers worldwide. Erik run sales and product development operations in different regions globally for Siemens Communications first in Germany and Spain and thereafter here in the US for different divisions Mobile Phones as well as Wireless Modules. All tolled Erik has spent over 15 years building and leading Project and BD teams delivering telecommunications solutions and hardware to customers across the globe.

Steve Pazol is the president of nPhase, a Verizon Wireless / Qualcomm joint venture, where he directs all aspects of the company’s operations, strategic development and execution. nPhase provides machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless communications and smart services offerings across a wide variety of market segments, including healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, distribution and consumer products. Previously Pazol was vice president and general manager for the Global Smart Services group for Qualcomm Enterprise Services, the group that provided the basis for the newly formed joint venture. Pazol is a seasoned entrepreneur and CEO with a 20+ year track record of successful startups in high technology and emerging markets, including M2M (machine to machine), enterprise software and wireless technologies. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Pazol was the founder and CEO of the original nPhase which was acquired by Qualcomm in 2006. A recognized thought leader and industry expert, Pazol has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Chicago Innovation Award, was named one of the original 10 M2M Pioneers by M2M Magazine, and served as moderator of the first M2M web log—M2Mblog. He has written numerous articles in technology journals, is on the Advisory Board of M2M Magazine, was the technical editor of the Unicenter Advisor magazine for more than 7 years as well as guest editor of Internet Security Advisor. He is also the technical editor and co-author of Unicenter TNG for Dummies. A frequent speaker at industry conferences, Pazol has also been a featured speaker and panel member at multiple Wharton School of Business, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and Northwestern Business School entrepreneurial classes. Prior to founding nPhase, Pazol spent 15 years providing consulting and systems implementation services in the information technology field as President of Professional Consulting Services, Inc. and co-founder of Mehta & Pazol Consulting Services Pvt. Ltd. in Pune, India. In 2005 and 2006, Steve was also acting CEO of Skychain, a joint venture between nPhase, LLC and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.

Take Route 163 south.  Pass the I-5 freeway, exit on Ash Street (Exit 1A).  Take Ash Street three blocks and turn left on 6th Avenue. From I-5 North (i.e., traveling south)
Take I-5 south.  Exit on Front Street  (Exit 17 Toward Civic Center).  Follow Front Street south to “A” Street.  Turn left onto “A” Street.  Travel five blocks east (“A” is one-way).  Turn right on 6th Avenue.  Go 1.5 blocks and enter the 525 B Street parking garage on the west (right) side of 6th Avenue (just after B Street).  Take the parking garage elevator to the main lobby of the building.

From Route 94 (i.e., traveling west)
Take Route 94 west.  Take the exit to I-5 North (exit is before Route 94 enters downtown).  On I-5 North, take the 6th Avenue exit (Exit 16B toward downtown).  Stay in left lane.  Turn left on 6th Avenue.  Cross “B” Street  and enter the 525 B Street parking garage on the west (right) side of 6th Avenue (just after B Street).  Take the parking garage elevator to the main lobby of the building.
