Who are you without your mobile phone?? With NFC, your phone is your identity, your wallet, your business card, your hotel room key. Bluetooth & WiFi connections can be configured with NFC, and you can learn about retail products by simply tapping your phone. Boarding passes, tickets to events, movies, rail, metro, and concerts can securely identify you using NFC. Walk into a retail store and immediately find offers specific to you. Fast food and vending machine items can be securely purchased with a tap of your mobile phone.

Near Field Communications (NFC) technology is one of the newest technologies designed to add additional utility to our cellular phones.   In essence, it uses your phone’s short-range wireless technology to send and receive personal data to other devices.  Its many capabilities will make our lives easier by consolidating many of the items that we carry with us every day. is coming at you in 2012 and our panel of experts will provide a glimpse of how NFC technology will change your lives.

Stoyan Kenderov
Head of Mobile Alliances, Intuit

Over 6 million small businesses and 20 million consumers in America rely on Intuit’s software for managing their finances, acquiring new customers, taking payments, tracking sales and expenses, and paying employees. Roughly a 1/5 of the nation’s GDP passes through Intuit’s software in one form or another. Recently Intuit was voted the #1 most trusted software brand by small business owners in America. As more and more users continue upgrading to smart phones, the expectation is on Intuit to deliver mobile applications that extend its cloud based and desktop based software to the mobile phones. Stoyan is in charge of Intuit’s relationships with the mobile industry, comprising mobile carriers, device manufacturers, OS providers and mobile app stores. He has been an active member of the wireless industry since 1999. Stoyan founded 2 start-ups, one of them in Germany, served on the advisory board of several other start-ups, and can still be caught writing mobile apps in his local Starbucks in San Francisco.

Ashok (Asokan) Thiyagarajan
Director, Platforms & Technology Strategy, Samsung

Asokan Thiyagarajan serves as the Director of Platforms and Technology Strategy at Samsung Telecommunications America, responsible for recommending strategies to address technology and market trends as well as strategic alliances. He is a respected speaker at international conferences on technology. He authors technology and visionary articles for leading magazines around the world.  Asokan has over 21 years of international experience in high technology sectors, developing software and communication systems.  Asokan has skills blended in technology, business, engineering and management, and is very effective in Technology Management. Highly analytical and an industry visionary, Asokan is a sought after global high-tech industry thought leader and trusted strategic advisor by companies.  Prior to Samsung, Asokan held a variety of senior technology management positions in brand name high-tech companies like Motorola, Nokia, Ericsson, Compaq (HP) and some for start-ups as well. He is a serial entrepreneur and pioneering high tech inventor. He presently serves on the board of directors/advisors of some technology start-ups. Asokan holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, from Madurai University, India.


Prasan Pai
Director of Marketing, Broadcom
Prasan Pai is Director of Marketing in Broadcom’s Wireless Connectivity Group with responsibility for NFC products among others. He has been with Broadcom for the last 6 years. Prior to Broadcom, Prasan was with Rockwell/Conexant and several startups in the semiconductor sector. He holds a MSEE from Univ of California-Irvine and a BSEE from Univ of Colorado.


Laura Diaz
Manager, New Market Development & Strategy, Verizon Wireless

Laura has a background focused on Wireless Communication Systems and Digital Signal Processing.  Her previous work experience ranges from hardware and software engineering in consumer electronics as well as military communication systems.  Laura currently works at Verizon Wireless doing New Market Development and Strategy.  Her main areas of focus involve identifying business opportunities and partnering with strategic companies in the areas of location technologies and social networking.  Local to Silicon Valley, Laura works closely with early stage startups, brining innovation and new technology to Verizon Wireless.  She has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University and a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Frank Creede
CTO, PDV

Frank Creede, is an investor and CTO of Pacific DataVision, Inc. where he leads the company’s development of Push to X wireless applications. Frank is a member of the San Diego Tech Coast Angels and an active angel investor in Southern California emerging high tech companies for 7 years. Frank was formerly the Chairman, President, & CEO of Logic Innovations, Inc., a division of U.K. based Xyratex Ltd. Logic Innovations, which provides data broadcasting products and development services, was founded by Frank in 1986 and acquired by the former division of IBM in 1999. Frank is also a Partner and Founder of Staffing Innovations, LLC, a technical contract outsourcing business headquartered in San Diego.  Frank is also a mentor and member of the Chairman’s Roundtable, a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of successful Chief Executive Officers who provide businesses in San Diego County advice on how to manage and grow their businesses through a well-defined mentoring program. CRT members provide this service free of charge to qualified area businesses as a way of giving back to the community.  Frank holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis and he has completed coursework for the MBA program at San Diego State University.
