As communication technologies become ever more prominent, web security becomes increasingly important for small and large companies alike.  According to a Norton study, cybercrime cost the global economy $388 billion in 2011.  This Security SIG event will demonstrate how web application security companies react to these types of threats and cyber breaches.Thomas Powell will discuss the common recon and attack techniques used in Web Application Security including Source Sifting, Fingerprinting, Input Manipulation, SQL Injection, Session Hijack, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), Cross-Site Request Forgery.  He will briefly discuss the relative merits of protection schemes including WAF software and appliances, input filtering libraries, security proxies and monitoring services.

We will also see a presentation on “The Deconstructing and Demonstration of an Anonymous Attack.”  Imperva will be describing a live Anonymous attack that recently took place against an un-named customer.  This attack was successfully repelled by Imperva and at the same time recorded and studied.  The presentation will include details of how best to prepare and repel an Anonymous or similar attack using SecureSphere and Social Media.  We will then see a live demo utilizing Anonymous tools against an active web server and database pair.  The attack will be shown successful and then mitigated via SecureSphere products.
