December 6, 2012

The Mobile Software Development SIG presents…

Have you ever wondered about how people make money with Mobile Apps beyond just selling it through the App store?  Or wondered how a start-up or a business decides what business model they should use?  Please join us for a presentation on various types of business models being used for Mobile Apps followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.

The panel of some of the most successful Mobile Software entrepreneurs in San Diego will discuss various business models and how they make money. These successful company founders will share some of the thinking and heartache that went into deciding on their business model, and share some of the dos and don’ts.
Boian Spassov
Founder & CEO, Locbit

Boian Spassov is the founder and CEO of Locbit, a technology company that allows the public to navigate the world as they do the web using a mobile device as their remote control. Spassov built and deployed a technology platform that utilizes a powerful algorithm to deliver relevant content based on location and contextual factors, primarily onto out of home digital screens with Internet connectivity. Since 2011, Spassov’s company has delivered the opportunity to engage and target relevant messages to consumers when they are most likely to make purchasing decisions – while on the go. Spassov graduated from San Diego State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. It was while at San Diego State that he interviewed local business owners to determine what was missing in the advertising and marketing space for them. It was based on this input, paired with a strategy for deep analytics and a global technology platform, that Spassov developed Locbit as a tool to bring intelligence and measurable metrics to the out-of-home space.

Peter A. Tenereillo
Founder/Creator, Trapster

Trapster: Users share the location of police speed traps, DUI checkpoints, and other roadway wallet hazards in real time. Trapster was the #1 most popular (by both downloads and app store ranking) Navigation category app across all smartphone platforms, for more than 2 years, from launch until well after the company was sold. This was done on a shoestring development budget, with a scrappy team and $zero spent on marketing, dominating over well funded competitors such as AT&T/VZ Navigator, Waze (67MM VC raised) and INRIX (68MM raised, preparing IPO), with only MapQuest as viable competition. More than 10 million downloads and more than 2.5 million active monthly users, from Lebanon to Los Angeles, Sydney to San Francisco, Berlin to Boca Raton, Trapster was truly a global phenomenon.
