Event Overview:
Two of San Diego’s most prominent and highly successful serial entrepreneurs will talk all things Exits: The art of navigating your startup to achieve the penultimate valuation. By all measurements, no other metric values startups quite like an exit event, whether it be through acquisition, merger or an IPO. The distinguished speakers with multiple successful Exits, including a major IPO, will share insights from their journey from Startups to Exits.
The dynamic discussion and Q&A will be invaluable to every entrepreneur at every stage of their startup – whether it be Seed, Series A or beyond.The topics covered will range from valuations, inflection points, organizational structures, investment structures, financial metrics, negotiations, IPO, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, mergers, sale, and more. But more importantly the discussion will focus on key events and ‘coincidences’, and what goes on behind the scenes with an entrepreneur at each stage of their startup life cycle. But more importantly the discussion will focus on key events and ‘coincidences’, evolution of entrepreneur’s thinking and perspectives, critical planning and decisions made at each stage of their startup’s life cycle, leading to a very successful Exit.

Mark Bowles is a highly successful serial entrepreneur, VC-backed 7 times totalling more than a quarter of a billion in venture capital backing and hundreds of millions more in returns. Most recently he founded ecoATM which was acquired for $350M. Mark is prolific inventor with 9 issued patents and over 30 patent applications, 2 National Science Foundation research grants, and dozens of product awards. Mark is also an active venture investor in another 2 dozen technology start-ups. Mark’s passion is supporting other passionate entrepreneurs.
Tom Tullie serves on the board of Everyone Counts as Executive Chairman, bringing more than 25 years of experience with technology companies. As a serial entrepreneur, he has a proven track record of successfully building leading-edge technology companies and has served as executive management to several companies that were eventually acquired or went public. As CEO his leadership includes ecoATM, acquired by Outerwall for $350M in 2013; Vativ Technologies, acquired by Entropic Communications; and Path 1 Network Technologies, acquired by IP Video Networks. Tom served as COO of Applied Micro Circuits Corporation, where he was part of the executive team who took the company public and raised $1 billion in secondary offerings.
In addition to being recognized with many industry awards, Tom was chosen by Ernst & Young as a 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year. Tom is also involved in many philanthropic areas and is a board member with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, The La Jolla Institute of Allergy and Immunology and is Vice Chairman of EvoNexus.
Devang Thakkar is a Managing Partner and President at InnoTivum Consulting (Software Product Management Training and Consulting firm) and provides consulting and M&A services through DCM Consulting. His expertise is in building and launching software products and solutions on a global scale in large corporations and startups, and in verticals such as Finance and Accounting, Electronic Content/Document Management, Media and Entertainment, In-Theatre Advertising, Business Processes Software, and Imaging and Storage Solutions.
He has Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and has completed coursework in strategy, marketing and Masters in Software Management. He is a Fellow of ISPMA (International Software Product Management Association), Entrepreneur-In-Residence (EIR) at Connect Springboard in San Diego, a co-chair for EvoNexus Special Interest Groups (SIG), an Executive Committee member of TiE South Coast, and a frequent speaker, moderator and organizer of selected events and conferences.
