The Digital Media SIG Presents…
The Connected Home
With HDTV, smartphones and the ever-present Internet, our homes are being bombarded with bits from all directions. Cable operators offer digital triple plays of TV, data, and voice; DVRs stream HD signals from one room to the others; 4G cellular networks feed multiple mobile devices; and Apple TV, Roku and Google Chromecast devices plug into Smart TVs, lighting up our living rooms with video from Netflix and YouTube.
Cable operators are moving toward a next-generation architecture, with “home gateways” acting as master storage and processing servers routing video, data and voice to various IP devices throughout the home. Keeping pace are the MOCA and WiFi standards, which continue to evolve, with the latest versions enabling theoretical speeds exceeding 1 Gbps. And mobile devices are synching up and “flinging” content to Smart TVs, using technologies like AirPlay, Miracast and DIAL.
Come hear our expert panelists discuss where this is all going and how consumers are to make sense out of the avalanche of digital information and devices penetrating their homes.
