The Makeover of Hollywood: Leveraging Web-Enabled Devices in the Networked, Digital World

August 1, 2013

The Consumer Electronics SIG Presents…

The entertainment industry remains a critical contributor to the global economy as Hollywood represents an indigenous product of the US and it is a disproportionate driver of traffic on the world-wide web highway. Today Hollywood faces the perfect storm of disruptive technologies of digital, Internet, broadband, smart telephony, social media, Big Data analytics, cloud storage and web-enabled consumer electronics devices which have upended the supply chain of the industry. The recipient of content wants it now, anywhere and on any device. The fixed, limited menu for content consumption is being replaced with a smorgasbord of personal tastes where numerous Web-enabled devices draw content from a plethora of emerging suppliers – aggregators, e-retailers, ecommerce companies, social networks, studios, telecom carriers and terrestrial service providers. User experience is the new mantra and creating new business models driven by big data analytics in social media is the formidable challenge. The presentation will analyze the outcome of the Draconian change in terms of the marketplace, businesses, technologies and consumers. Insight will be shared in the responses being made to embrace the technologies and consumer demands and inferences will be drawn to apply to other industries.
