Women in Tech: Bold Women Innovate

EvoNexus and Intuit bring together four dynamic women in tech, for one evening, to share how they each defined innovation in their career journey. In this authentic and candid conversation with each of these bold women, participants will learn about how they tackled the risks and challenges, celebrated triumphs and learned key lessons that have fueled their career.

Kristi Jaska
Vice President of Engineering, ViaSat

Kristi started her career at Linkabit, the fountainhead of San Diego’s telecom industry, where she worked with the three founders of ViaSat.  She then joined ViaSat as the 6th employee just about a year after the company was founded.  During her time at ViaSat she has worked to grow the company in many areas including hardware, software, and system design; project and business management; and strategy and marketing.  She co-founded ViaSat’s innovation center and holds numerous patents in digital communications. 

Kristi has B.S. and M.Eng degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

Tristan Barnum
Co-Founder and CMO, Tellient

Tristan is co-founder and CMO of Tellient, an analytics platform built for the Internet of Things. She has served as CMO at VoIP service provider Telcentris. In 2003, Tristan co-founded Switchvox, which was acquired by Digium, the Asterisk Company, in 2007 to serve the rapidly growing SMB market for VoIP phone systems. Prior to Switchvox, Tristan pioneered the online delivery of digital media at MP3.com, which Vivendi Universal acquired. Her work included the design of new web services, handheld mp3 players, tablets and interactive TV. While at Vivendi, she was awarded a patent for a system that provides access to electronic works over a network.

Chrysa Mineo 
Former SVP of Corporate Development, Receptos

Chrysa Mineo has over 26 years of experience in biotechnology, serving most recently on the executive team of Receptos as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. Ms. Mineo joined Receptos in 2009 prior to the Series A funding round, and she led business development efforts to secure partnership for Receptos’ Phase 3 immunology/GI candidate ozanimod, which efforts ultimately resulted in the acquisition of Receptos by Celgene for $7.8 billion in July 2015. During her tenure at Receptos and through collaborations with AbbVie, Ono, Lilly and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Ms. Mineo in-licensed a P2-ready clinical candidate and raised significant non-dilutive capital for Receptos. She also played a key role in the 2013 Receptos Initial Public Offering (IPO), leading the S-1 registration filing. Receptos ultimately raised over $700M in equity capital markets to advance multiple drug development programs in neuro-immunology and GI indications.

Prior to Receptos, Ms. Mineo spent 12 years with San Diego-based Neurocrine Biosciences in roles of increasing business development responsibility for neuroscience and metabolic-oriented drug development programs. Prior to Neurocrine, Ms. Mineo served in various capacities in research, marketing and business development for such companies as Amgen, DNAX Research Institute, Schering Plough and Baxter Biotech. She began her career in 1987 with Amgen as a member of a cellular biology team identifying a therapeutic role for Neupogen®. Ms. Mineo holds a B.S. in Zoology from the University of California, Davis and received her M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Rocio Montes
Senior Software Engineer of Consumer Open Platform, Intuit

Rocio Montes is a senior software engineer of the consumer open platform at Intuit. She also has a secondary role where she leads the tech assessment effort to identify rockstar software engineer co-ops (six month interns) at RIT, Rochester Institute of Technology, her alma mater. Outside of Intuit, she is the Co-founder of  “Emar”, a small business whose mission is to connect small businesses in the US who have tech needs with software engineering interns in Peru.

Kayla Trautwein
Director and Sr. Portfolio Manager, EvoNexus

Kayla Trautwein is the Director & Sr. Portfolio Manager of the EvoNexus Technology Startup Incubator, managing the portfolio companies in the Downtown San Diego and La Jolla incubator locations. In this role, she provides startups strategic support and guidance, including introductions to capital, mentor matching and program development. Kayla also manages the recruitment and due diligence process for new ventures, working closely with EvoNexus volunteers who vet and select the startups.

Prior to EvoNexus, Kayla was a founding member and CFO of an online marketplace for socially-conscious apparel and home goods. During college she worked as a Research Analyst at a boutique investment bank, Bainbridge Capital, on the M&A team. Kayla earned her B.A. in Economics from UCSD and holds a minor in Sociology.
