Internet of Things (IoT) has a significant opportunity to improve patient outcome and wellness – and San Diego is evolving to be ground zero for many of these exciting new products and services. We have seen the emergence of connected medical devices such as smart heart rate monitors, non-invasive biosensors, and health centric smart phone applications. All of these developments have introduced us to what we call Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). IoMT has the potential and opportunity to change the way that we think of healthcare today and improve quality of life. The San Diego region is home to some of the most important companies in communications, biotech, and pharmaceuticals. Rick Valencia (SVP, Qualcomm Life), Dr. James Mault (VP & Chief Medial Officer, Qualcomm Life), Marshal Dhillon (Co-Founder/VP Research & Engineering, toSense, Inc.) and Dr. Steven Steinhubl (Director of Digital Medicine and Cardiologist, Scripps Clinic) will provide great insight to the future of IoMT and some of the important technology developments that are occurring in this region that will impact future healthcare.
