Please join the CommNexus Industry Leaders Series SIG as we kick off a 3-part Series on Women in Technology! Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from three highly successful women as they discuss their experience in leadership and the technology industry. The series will feature keynotes by Maria Stipp of EcoATM, Dr. Tina Nova of Illumnia and Dr. Gail Naughton of Histogen. The first event in this series will be a keynote by Maria Stipp, President of EcoATM.
Maria Stipp is the president of ecoATM and the Chief New Venture Officer for Outerwall, the company behind popular consumer kiosks like Coinstar and Redbox. Her role at Outerwall finds her responsible for finding, developing and growing new businesses that will become a part of the Outerwall family of companies. One such recent acquisition is ecoATM, automated recycling stations that enable consumers to exchange used consumer electronics for cash. The New Venture role is responsible for more than $1B in revenues and has ownership over all aspects of the P&L, including brand marketing, manufacturing, engineering, legal, HR, finance, sales strategy and field operations. Prior to this role Maria was the Chief Customer Officer for Coinstar-redbox, responsible for overall go- to-market strategy and more than $2.2B in annual sales.
Before joining Outerwall,Maria was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Owned Properties Business Unit at Activision. Maria was responsible for the Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Tony Hawk franchises as well as the task of new IP invention and revitalizing franchises for growth and profitability. Her most significant achievement in this role was successfully marketing and launching the largest video game of all time, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, with more than $1B sold globally to date. Maria also successfully led Activision’s North American sales organization to many company and industry records. She grew sales from below $300MM in net revenue achievement to more than $1.5B — a 400% increase — in just four years.
Based on her category expertise, Maria was invited to the exclusive vendor summit committee at both Walmart and Target, and she lead her team to the award of category captaincy at both accounts. Before joining Activision, Maria led successful sales teams at Miller Brewing Company, responsible for two of the company’s largest and most important regions: Chicago/Michigan and Southern California/Nevada. Prior to her promotion to sales management, she set her own sales records for the company and was consistently recognized as a best in class sales professional, being promoted six times in seven years. Maria holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in Business Administration, and has completed executive coursework at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago, the Center for Creative Leadership and Cornell University.
