Qualcomm Inc. announced this week that it appointed Larry Paulson as president of Qualcomm India.

Paulson joined Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) in 2013 as vice president of product management for Qualcomm Reference Design — part of Qualcomm’s chip-making business. Most recently he led the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies platforms organization. He expanded the Qualcomm Reference Design platform from low-tier chips to the company’s complete line of chips, and into new categories such as virtual reality.

(CDMA is short for code division multiple access, a wireless technology at the foundation of Qualcomm’s business.)

Paulson has more than 20 years of experience in strategy, R&D, customer development, product marketing and technology creation. Prior to coming to Qualcomm, he was chief marketing officer for BrightPoint. He also held several positions with Nokia.

Qualcomm announced in October that Sunil Lalvani decided to step down from the top job at Qualcomm India. Lalvani had held the job for about a year following the departure of Avneesh Agarwal. Agarwal is now CEO of NetraDyne, a company with offices in San Diego and Bangalore which offers technology that lets fleet operators improve driver safety.
