Poornima Lalwaney is a Director of Engineering with Motorola Mobility at San Diego. She joined Motorola in 2006 and has led software engineering organizations and product programs in Mobile Devices. Prior to Motorola, Poornima was with Nokia, San Diego responsible for Nokia’s CDMA software platform in Internet protocols, Middleware and Application areas. Poornima has held both technical leadership and management roles in mobile wireless industry delivering software and products on a variety of platforms to carriers around the globe. Poornima started her career at General Instrument working on data networking architecture and VoIP for cable modems.
In the 16 years in this industry, Poornima has led several early technology programs in emerging data protocols and applications (including IPv6, MIPv6, IMS) and contributed to the definition of enablers for VoIP, Video and multimedia over IP, network and session mobility over various access networks( cable, cellular, broadband wireless).
Poornima Lalwaney holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1995) and a Masters degree in Electrical Communications Engineering from The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India (1989). Poornima has 4 U.S patents, has served on technical program committees and chaired sessions at IEEE Conferences and published papers in International Conferences and Journals. Poornima chaired the San Diego chapter of the IEEE Communications Society in 2000-2001.
