Mr. Khoury is a co-founder and has served as CEO of SOCi, Inc. since inception. He has contributed articles to Forbes magazine on the topic of venture capital and entrepreneurship.
Afif has spent the last 15 years involved in startups and venture capital investments as a serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist and technology attorney.
Afif is a published geneticist who earned his BS in Neuroscience and Physiology from UCSD in 1998, before attending Law School at Northwestern School of Law (JD 2002) and Business School at Kellogg School of Management. While attending law school and business school, Afif launched and successfully monetized his first company, SymptomCare.com (a self-diagnosis B2C SaaS platform), which he licensed to multiple medhealth sites. Afif then made his way to Silicon Valley, joining the premier technology law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) as a corporate and M&A attorney representing technology companies and venture investors.
Afif moved back to San Diego where he helped start WSGR’s San Diego office, following which he left to help open the San Diego office of Gunderson Dettmer (another Silicon Valley-based premier technology law firm).
In 2010 Afif raised a $70M seed and early stage fund named Scatter Ventures, which has successfully invested in 23 companies. During his time with Scatter Afif took over one of Scatter’s portfolio companies, FanGate Media, which he led to an exit.
Afif then founded SOCi, Inc., a B2B enterprise SaaS platform for social media management & content intelligence, which was accepted into the EvoNexus incubator. Afif raised a $1.5M angel round, followed by an $8.5M venture round (2017) led by seasoned Silicon Valley VCs. Afif has grown SOCi to 56 employees across two offices (San Diego & Austin), with revenues growing nearly 300% in its last year. Afif has become one of the prominent Tech and SaaS players in San Diego.
Afif is a director of the San Diego Venture Group, and a Managing Member of Axon Ventures (a San Diego based venture fund). He is California Board certified as well as a registered attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
