FRMR CEO, Provide Commerce
As a CEO and C-level executive, Chris Shimojima has led organizations in a Fortune 100 global enterprise to PE-backed companies and start-ups. A classically trained consumer packaged goods brand manager, his career has spanned many industries, including athletic footwear & apparel, beauty, home décor, food & beverage, telecommunication, and specialty retail. Since 1999, Chris has been at the forefront of the digital revolution, leading organizations that have pioneered notable innovations like “buy online, pick up in-store,” drop-shipped marketplace, digital mass customization, and global scale e-commerce.
In 2017, Chris co-founded Daasity, a SaaS-based data-analytics company that focuses on helping direct-to-consumer brands harness data to make faster, better decisions. Daasity was accepted into EvoNexus in 2019 and was selected by Shopify Plus as its preferred certified technology partner for data analytics.
Chris presently serves on the board of Metagenics, Implus Corporation, Kirkland’s Inc, and Milani Cosmetics; and, advises several start-ups and micro-cap companies. He also serves as an Executive-in-Residence for EvoNexus, a start-up incubator in San Diego. As the founder of C5 Advisory, a management consultancy, Chris helps companies amplify growth.
After devoting the first half of his career in consumer goods and services with Pepsi-cola, Nestlé, and AT&T, Chris began his career in digital commerce in 1999 as the Chief Marketing & Merchandising Officer for kozmo.com. He then led Sears.com from 2001 to 2006 where he built it to reach $900 million in sales, making it as one of the five largest e-commerce businesses in the U.S.
In 2006, joined Nike as their first global e-commerce leader. At Nike, Chris successfully expanded Nike.com and NikeiD into 24 countries and laid the foundation for becoming a multi-billion dollar business it is today. In 2012, he became the CEO of Provide Commerce, the operator of specialty e-commerce brands – ProFlowers, Shari’s Berries, RedEnvelope, Personal Creations, and Gift.com. Chris successfully engineered the sale of the company in 2015.
Chris was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, speaks fluent Japanese. He lives in San Diego with his wife, Shirley, and Alfie, who is 60% Poodle, 40% Pug+Cocker+Chihuahua.
