We’re proud to celebrate a significant outcome for Fabric8Labs, the pioneer of Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM), has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation in a $400 million deal. Announced on June 10, 2026, the acquisition marks the 63rd for the EvoNexus portfolio.
Jeff Herman and David Pain joined EvoNexus as a two-person team in 2015, when 3D printing was still largely a story about plastics. They saw an opportunity to take additive manufacturing to a level of sophistication and precision that traditional casting and milling couldn’t reach — using a non-thermal electrochemical process instead of the lasers, vacuum chambers, and metal powders the industry relied on. That process became ECAM, the patented technology that today produces high-performance metal components for advanced liquid cooling, power regulation, and RF communications systems.
The timing could not be better. As AI data centers push compute density to new extremes, thermal management has become one of the industry’s most critical constraints. ECAM-enabled cooling products reduce accelerator temperatures by up to 7°C per kilowatt compared to competing solutions — a margin that translates directly into higher rack densities, improved energy efficiency, and longer component life for hyperscale operators. With TDK’s global manufacturing network behind it, ECAM now gains the production scale and supply chain reach that tier-one OEMs and hyperscale customers require.
The journey from our incubator to this milestone runs through a remarkable trajectory: a Forbes “30 Under 30” nod in 2018, a $50M Series B led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA) with participation from Intel Capital, imec.XPAND, SE Ventures, TDK Ventures, and Lam Capital, and a growing roster of enterprise customers across data center infrastructure and advanced electronics. Fittingly, TDK Ventures — TDK’s investment arm — was an early backer of Fabric8Labs, seeing the same potential then that its parent company is now acquiring at scale. Following the close of the transaction, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals, Fabric8Labs will continue to operate under its existing leadership team.
