Advisor to the CTO, NWIC Pacific / Co-Founder, Cardea Bio & Nanomedical Diagnostics
Dr. Brett Goldsmith currently serves as Advisor to the CTO of NIWC Pacific. Prior to this he co-founded Cardea Bio and Nanomedical Diagnostics. Cardea Bio was acquired by Paragraf in May 2023, where he then served as an Executive Vice President.
Dr. Goldsmith was a lead researcher on landmark bio-nanotechnology papers in Science and Nature Nanotechnology under UCI Physics professor Phil Collins. His graduate work was some of the first demonstrating coupling of biochemical systems to carbon nanotubes, for which he won the Nottingham Prize from the Physics Electronics Conference. Following graduate school at UC Irvine, Dr. Goldsmith joined the University of Pennsylvania as an Intelligence Community Fellow and led several projects developing nanoelectronic sensors. Leaving his post-doc position to start the Functional Nano Device group at the Navy’s San Diego laboratory, Dr. Goldsmith identified technological needs in the field and advanced nanotechnology solutions to those needs through partnership with DARPA and ONR programs including Living Foundries and IVN Dx. Prior to founding Nanomed, Dr. Goldsmith was the CTO of Nanosense in Mountain View where he developed and drove the first successful fabrication of a nanoelectronic sensing system in the chemical manufacturing industry in the form of commercial industrial gas sensors.
