Kate Gilchrist serves as the Director and Board Member of ALTO LLC, a San Francisco based CVC and innovation center. Kate is an accomplished leader with 7+ of experience in venture capital, automotive technology, AI enterprise transformation, entrepreneurship and strategy consulting.
Kate has a proven track record in executing long-term strategies and deploying AI and other bleeding-edge technologies at scale. Notably, Kate recently facilitated an AI automation innovation project worth $20 million for her client in Shanghai, introducing an AI-driven method that overhauled the entire development and R&D functions of a $10 billion enterprise business.
Drawing from her personal experience as an exited entrepreneur and strategy advisor, Kate is often called upon to adeptly pinpoint what a new venture needs to optimize, grow, or expand. She previously founded Besto, a healthcare services platform that achieved a $10M valuation within 1 year. As Strategy Director at Shadowboxer, Kate closed ~$40M of VC funds for 100+ startups.
Kate excels at identifying transformative opportunities in complex markets, leading cross-border innovation efforts and partnerships. She has developed a comprehensive investment thesis and strategic frameworks centered on the convergence of AI-driven automotive, semiconductors, and other emerging technologies. Her deep understanding of the global chip supply chain, ICTS legislation, and manufacturing dynamics informs her strategic direction for global automotive enterprises.
A dynamic connector in the innovation ecosystem, Kate leverages a robust network in the San Francisco Bay Area’s tech trenches. Her influence extends into academia and global forums, where she has been a guest lecturer at Monash University’s Masters of Entrepreneurship program, leading workshops on startup strategy, financial modeling, and product-market fit. Additionally, she serves as a host and guest speaker at the United Nations’ World Digital Technology Academy, sharing insights on innovation and venture ecosystems.
