Poornima Lalwaney (Member, IEEE) received the master’s degree in electrical communications engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, USA. She is currently a Senior Director of Engineering with the Chipset and IP Group, Intel. She has 25 years of experience in wireless systems, software, and products, and has previously worked at Qualcomm, Motorola, and Nokia. She holds 11 U.S. patents in the mobility system architectures and has contributed to the IETF and 3GPP2/3GPP standards. She has served on technical program committees and chaired sessions at IEEE Conferences.

She is an experienced engineering and product leader in emerging hardware and software technologies (Secure Privacy preserving machine learning on edge and cloud; Device and network products addressing 4G,5G,6G technologies) from concept to products with a focus on Systems Engineering and software first principles. She thrives on the challenge of creating new technology, product concepts, solutions to customers’ needs, working to create internal and external (customers) pull, generate strategies and funding proposals, building and supporting high performing teams, taking products through the full lifecycle to commercialization by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and managing cross-functional teams across different geographies managing budgets upto $50M USD. Recent products and prototypes include (A) DARPA DPRIVE grand challenge on enabling direct computation on encrypted data via Fully Homomorphic Encryption industry first hardware/software system with usecases/performance for Convolutional Neural Networks, Logistic Regression and Private query on public domain data (B) Confidential Generative AI systems: Hardware and Software architectures for Large Language Models (C) Network session mobility and configuration(wireless, wireline): 4G, 5G Cellular Client, Radio access and core network mobility, analytics and privacy in 6G network architectures.
