EvoNexus portfolio company Sateliot has successfully launched five new satellites for its 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) Internet of Things service, right on schedule. The mission, named Draconis, brings the total number of satellites Sateliot has launched since its 2018 founding to 11.
More Passes, Shorter Gaps
All five satellites have confirmed nominal initial status. Once folded into the constellation, they will double the average number of daily passes and cut revisit time in half, giving devices more chances to connect in places with no terrestrial mobile coverage.
An Upgraded Generation
Compared with the four satellites Sateliot launched in 2024, the new units carry an optimized payload, a more reliable and efficient onboard data storage system, upgraded central computers and attitude control systems for greater stability and easier in-orbit maneuvers, and memory systems built to better withstand radiation. Each satellite measures 20 x 10 x 35 cm, weighs 10 kg, orbits at 510 km and has a five-year operational life. Alén Space manufactured the satellites, and Exolaunch handled their integration with the launch vehicle.
One Network, From the Ground to Orbit
Sateliot builds on the 3GPP Release 17 standard, which lets ordinary cellular IoT devices connect directly to its satellites when terrestrial coverage runs out, all from a single SIM. The company says this approach lets it support thousands of clients across 50 countries, keeping devices reliably connected across both terrestrial and satellite infrastructure in even the most remote environments.
CEO and co-founder Jaume Sanpera described where the company stands: “We have validated the technology and are now increasing capacity and service regularity,” with the goal of scaling together with mobile operators. The Draconis satellites will join a single constellation of more than 500 satellites, evolving through successive generations from massive IoT to higher-capacity, mission-critical services, including direct-to-device (D2D) capabilities. Sateliot is targeting complete deployment of its constellation in 2027/28.
Capital Behind the Climb
The launch follows Sateliot’s €100M Series C round in April 2026, with capital earmarked mainly for deploying 16 satellites. The company entered that raise with €270M in pre-contracts, more than 400 clients in 60 countries, and agreements with operators including Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom, and it projects revenues of €500M in 2027 and €1B in 2030. Sateliot’s backers include Indra, Cellnex, the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation, Sepides, Hyperion, Global Portfolio Investments and Banco Santander, along with the European Investment Bank.
