Craig Miller: President, ViaSat Government

Craig Miller is President of Viasat Government, a global defense company delivering next-generation, multi-domain, sensor-to-shooter network orchestration and data integration for interoperable,  AI- and Cloud-enabled military operations. His leadership spans a broad portfolio of space-based communications, tactical edge networking, cybersecurity, information assurance, and C5ISR technologies. With 30 years at Viasat, Craig has held key strategic, technical, and operational leadership roles, including President Engineering, Chief Product Officer, and Chief Technology Officer of Government Systems. He also launched Viasat’s Resilient Space Missions business, which pioneered multi-network, multi-orbit, multi-band satellite communications with Viasat’s Hybrid Adaptive Network architecture.

Known for applying technical and business model innovation to solve tough connectivity challenges, Craig has helped position Viasat Government as a mission-focused partner to U.S. and allied forces. His work reflects a deep commitment to delivering scalable, user-centric capabilities that create operational advantage, enhance mission safety, and support the evolving demands of modern defense.  Prior to Viasat, Craig worked at Hughes Missile Systems Group, advancing electronic countermeasures for radar systems.  He also serves on the EvoNexus Board of Directors.

 

PANELISTS:

Matt Grob: Vice President & CTO of Wireless Initiatives, Globalstar | Former CTO, Qualcomm

Matt Grob serves as Chief Technology Officer of Globalstar. Prior to joining Globalstar, Grob served as Chief Technology Officer of XCOM Labs from 2018 until joining Globalstar in 2023.

Grob previously spent over 26 years at Qualcomm in technology and engineering leadership roles. He served as Qualcomm’s EVP and CTO from 2011 to 2017, overseeing R&D and managing a global team of 2,200 employees across various divisions worldwide, and later as EVP of Technology.

Grob holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Bradley University and M.S. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He is a trustee of the Fleet Science Center in San Diego and a volunteer for over a decade at FIRST, the robotics and education organization inspiring future leaders in science and technology.

 

Shameem Hashmi: SVP Strategy and Global Markets, ViaSat Commercial Services

Shameem Hashmi is Senior Vice President for Strategy and Global Markets at Viasat Commercial Services. With over 30 years of experience in the satellite communications and technology industry, Shameem has been a driving force behind Viasat’s growth and innovation.

Previously, Shameem led Global Markets for Global Enterprise and Mobility segment including being the GM of the growing maritime business. He played a leading role in Viasat’s Commercial Aviation team, where he helped start and scale the business to become a global leader in the industry. During his tenure, he launched the Customer Success Management and Support Service organizations, among several other critical functions. His diverse career at Viasat has spanned multiple capacities, from software developer to commercial aviation management to his current position as Senior VP of Strategy and Global Markets.

Shameem is a strong advocate of education and has developed and led community-outreach educational programs at Viasat for local middle and high schools in Carlsbad, fostering a passion for STEM among young students.

He holds two bachelor’s degrees: one in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech and another in Physics and Economics from Bowdoin College. Additionally, he has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, San Diego.

 

Ron Reedy: CEO, Skeyeon | Former CEO & Co-Founder Peregrine Semiconductor

Ronald Reedy is an American businessman, scientist and researcher, who founded and serves as the CEO of Skeyeon. In the semiconductor industry, he advanced silicon on sapphire (SOS) and CMOS technology.

Reedy began his career at the NOSC (US Naval Ocean Systems Center) where he worked on silicon CMOS processing. In 1988, Reedy along with NOSC colleagues Mark Burgener and Graham Garcia published a research paper in IEEE Electron Device Letters that proved that SOS films thinned to 100 nm were suitable for application to high-performance down-scaled CMOS circuitry. It was with this advancement that Reedy decided to commercialize the technology. Their research findings were instrumental to the industry and have since been cited in 13 IEEE research papers and 58 patents.

In 1990, Reedy co-founded Peregrine Semiconductor with Rory Moore to commercialize the advanced technology. Peregrine became a fabless chip designer that was publicly traded on the NASDAQ until the company was acquired by Murata. Reedy served as the company’s founding CEO and the company’s CTO before retiring in early 2015. Reedy now holds the title of CTO emeritus of Peregrine Semiconductor.

In 2016, Reedy came out of retirement and founded Skeyeon, the first company based on placing a satellite constellation in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) for the earth imaging market. There are numerous benefits to operating in VLEO that are not available in higher altitude LEO and GEO orbits, where most satellites and the International Space Station operate, including inherently higher satellite performance; substantially lower launch and operating costs; and creating self-cleaning orbits essentially solving the significant problem of space debris. Skeyeon has developed technology enabling VLEO operation for many different applications, and is actively developing its first satellites for launch.

Reedy sits on the Council of Advisors for UCSD’s Jacobs School of Engineering and its Gordon Leadership Center.
Over the course of his career, Reedy has been listed as an inventor on dozens of patents. Many of those patents are related to advancements in silicon on insulator, silicon on sapphire and CMOS. In 1969, Reedy graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis with a BSEE. He then earned a MSEE degree from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. In 1983, he received his Ph.D. in EE & Applied Physics from UC San Diego.

SIGs are valuable for our corporate partners and their employees, entrepreneurs, the university ecosystem, and individuals seeking to gain specific subject matter knowledge​. These in-person events are an opportunity to meet peers and industry leaders to advance mutual business interests.
