British Telecom (BT) is actively looking to establish relationships with U.S. technology firms that can enhance their telecommunication networks, services, and products. BT is one of the world’s leading providers of communications solutions and services operating in 170 countries. In the UK, BT serves over 20 million business and residential customers with more than 30 million exchange lines, as well as providing network services to other licensed operators. <more>
What BT is Looking For:
1. Broadband value-added applications (enabling the augmentation of ARPU on DSL) for enterprise services, home networking, fixed mobile convergence, and IPTV service.
2. New generation VOIP applications.
3. Innovative mobile applications deployable on a wide variety of mobile devices (phones and WiFi).
4. Infrastructure provider services and technologies.
5. Social networking and communications-intensive Web 2.0 applications.
6. Mesh WiFi technologies enabling the reduction of the costs of metro WiFi deployments or ARPU augmentation.
7. IT virtualization technologies applicable in BT data centers to help in the cost reduction of utility computing, with a preference for open source and inexpensive scalable technologies.
8. Technologies helping to rationalize business and operational processes and reduce costs when outsourcing large IT networks for multinational customers.

Jean-Marc Frangos – SVP, Technology and InnovationAs Senior Vice-President, Technology and Innovation, Jean-Marc Frangos is responsible for sourcing BT’s external innovation in the United States, in Asia, and in Europe. Based in Silicon Valley, and in association with leading Venture Capital firms and entrepreneurs, Jean-Marc identifies disruptive technologies and innovative service opportunities, and establishes the technical and commercial links with BT’s Research and BT’s Operational Divisions.Jean-Marc is also responsible for ‘Innovation Central’, and BT’s ‘Applied Technology Center’. Both organizations aim at introducing innovations, internal and external, to BT’s technology and service roadmaps. | |
Mark Bagley – VP, Technology, US West Coast, Innovation ScoutingMark is currently holds the role of VP Technology in BT’s West Coast “Innovation Scouting” function. The focus of this activity is to introduce carefully qualified innovation/technology into BT’s three operating divisions – two operating and providing services in the UK and the third worldwide.Previously Mark was Senior Consultant in BT’s Global Services division selling Mobility (Data on the move) Solutions into Europe. Prior to joining BT Mark spent two years in key marketing and engineering roles in a UK based start-up Venation. | |
Rob Hull – VP, Business Development, Technology & Innovation team Rob Hull is the VP Business Development for the Technology and Innovation team within the British Telecom Group CTO. He heads up the Innovation Scouting function whose role is to identify, qualify, then introduce innovative technologies, propositions and business models into the BT Lines of Business. The team reports back on US market trends and help manage BT’s small venture capital activity.Rob is the author of BT’s external venturing strategy and plays a major role in the evaluation of innovative technologies and propositions with a view to their strategic fit within BT. He then leads the initial business development activity into BT. |
